DUBOIS — Firefighters from Jefferson County — including Sykesville, Big Run, Reynoldsville, Brockway and Falls Creek — assisted Clearfield County firefighters in battling a massive blaze that broke out around lunchtime Thursday at Perkins Family Restaurant & Bakery along East DuBois Avenue, Sandy Township.
More than 100 firefighters responded to the fire, from which smoke could be seen from around the city and surrounding area.
Witnesses said Route 219 was completely shut down, and traffic was rerouted behind DuBois Area High School.
WJAC-TV said workers inside the restaurant noticed smoke and immediately evacuated customers.
Despite the efforts of the fire companies on-scene, they were unable to save the building, although they did prevent the flames from spreading to a Burger King next door, the station said.
At Spirit press time, there was no information on the cause of the fire or injuries to customers, employees and firefighters.
