PUNXSUTAWNEY — Whether “The Jerry Springer Show” is a favorite show of some viewers or a guilty pleasure for others, the show, without doubt, has incredible fanfare throughout the country.
“We had a great time,” said Matthew Jenkins of Punxsy, on his and his friends’ escapade to the Windy City for a filming of the Springer show. “We got to go to Chicago. We were there two days after Obama’s acceptance speech, so the vibe there was awesome — everyone was happy. The whole city was in a good mood — we got to go at a really great time.”
Why Jenkins and his friends — Erica Wagner, Rachel Shumaker and Virgil Eakin — journeyed to be on the show must remain a secret until the show airs, but needless to say, Jenkins said they had a fun time doing it. “It was the experience of a lifetime,” he said.
“As cool as Chicago was, the best part of the trip was doing the show,” Jenkins said. “Everybody was really decent. We got the star treatment.” “They treated us really well,” Wagner added.
“All expenses were paid by them — our food, hotel, limo, everything,” Jenkins said.
The four friends traveled to Chicago two weekends ago and filmed the television show all day Nov. 10. They are awaiting the show to air, which could be anytime within six to eight weeks.
“We were there and home before we knew it, but they’ve been in touch, and they said they were really happy with the show that we did, and there’s a good chance that we could go back in six months for an update show,” Jenkins said.
The group filmed in NBC Studios, home of other shows such as “The Steve Wilko Show” and “Judge Mathis.”
“It was really neat to meet Jerry Springer in person, since he’s such a driving force in American television, especially now that he hosts ‘America’s Got Talent,’” Jenkins said.
“As soon as the show was over, they whisked us right outside into limousines, back to the airport, we caught a flight, and we were home like it never even happened,” he said.
