HYDE -- The Clearfield Lady Bisons brought more intensity on their home field Wednesday night, and that led to a 6-0 rout of the Lady Chucks.
Punxsy (4-8), which had compiled a 4-4 record after starting 0-3, trailed 3-0 at halftime before suffering the 6-0 loss.
"They (the Lady Bisons) were playing 80 minutes, and we just didn't come out and play 80 minutes with the same intensity that they did," Punxsy head coach Tom Robicheau said. "We had spurts where we played well, then we had a letdown, and that's when they would score."
Robicheau said that a handful of balls were deflecting off his girls, and that his team was unable to get good clearance of the ball. That led to Clearfield outshooting Punxsy 22-3 in the game.
"A couple mishandled balls and stuff like that just kills you," Robicheau said. "They (the Lady Bisons) were in the right spot and working hard, but we were adding to the problem. That's what happens against a good team."
Clearfield had 10 shots to Punxsy's one in the first half before winning the shot contest by the score of 12-2 during the final 40 minutes.
"We still didn't bring the effort that we needed," Robicheau said. "I saw some good play from a couple people, but we need 11 players on the field (playing well)."
Robicheau said that with many seniors and freshmen trying to co-exist, it has been hard to produce team chemistry.
"They're running hard out there, but running hard and being in the right spots aren't the same things," Robicheau said. "I'm seeing some good things out of the younger players. We just need everybody to be on the right page."
The Lady Chucks will play Curwensville for the first and only time this season at 4 p.m. today.
Punxsy lost at Curwensville Sept. 4, 2007, in the teams' last meeting, 4-0.
"I think we have a good chance against Curwensville," Robicheau said. "We just have to come out strong."
