HYDE -- Another year, another sweep.
The Punxsy volleyball team started its District IX schedule with a dominant sweep of a league opponent on the road -- 25-11, 25-16 and 25-8 Tuesday night over the Clearfield Lady Bisons.
"Overall, I was pleased with what I saw tonight. It's nice to come out and make an immediate statement in District IX play," Punxsy head coach Lisa Good said. "We had very good communication and good movement to the ball."
Senior Holly Setree made marks all over the court, including a team-high 16 digs. She was also second in kills with six, tied for second with seven service points and earned one block.
"Holly had an excellent match. She served well, passed well and hit well," Good said. "The most impressive part of her game was her anticipation and read of what Clearfield was doing"
Junior Lex Bianco and sophomore Hannah Neal guarded the net. Bianco accomplished nine kills and two blocks, while Neal totaled five kills and a team-best three rejections.
"Lex Bianco and Hannah Neal controlled the middle of the net the entire game," Good said. "Lex is starting to get more power with her net play, and Hannah has a lot of finesse."
Neal and Sarah Fugate each compiled nine service points. Setree joined Britt Aaron and Taylor Powell with seven service points apiece.
"I like the confidence that these girls show when they go back to the serving line," Good said. "It's not a question of whether they are going to get the serve over; it's a question of who or what area are they serving to."
The junior-varsity team won with a 2-0 sweep over the Lady Bisons.
"Shawnna Crago hit well on the outside, and Kristen Fedder has been setting well for us all season," Punxsy JV coach Jay Long said. "The team is starting to come together nicely. I am looking forward to seeing them develop as a team this season."
The Lady Chucks remain on the road for their next match, which begins at 6 p.m. Thursday in Brockway.
