PUNXSUTAWNEY — The FBI is now assisting Punxsutawney Borough Police and PSP-Punxsutawney in their investigation of Monday’s robbery of Community First Bank, and police have released an image of the suspect taken from the bank’s security camera.

Although there are no leads to report, Punxsutawney Borough Police Chief Tom Fedigan said investigators are trying to link Monday’s incident to three specific, previous robberies in Clymer, DuBois and the Kittanning area.

Fedigan said he’s surprised that there have been so many bank robberies in western Pennsylvania since the beginning of the year, citing a Web site called bankguys.us, which chronicles individual incidents.

With the second robbery of Community First Bank in four months, he said he’s also surprised the individual(s) have targeted that location.

“There’s so much traffic that comes down that way,” Fedigan said. “I don’t know why.”

He said police are looking at the three incidents in Clymer, DuBois and Kittanning due to the attire of the suspects — especially the person in the July 1 robbery of the Dollar General store in Clymer — and the physical descriptions.

In the Kittanning-area incident, the suspect approached a teller at the Elderton State Bank, Main Street, at 12:34 p.m. July 3 and demanded money, according to PSP-Kittanning.

The man told the teller he was armed but did not display a weapon, according to the Indiana Gazette.

He ran away toward Elderton Country Market with an undisclosed amount of money, police said.

Troopers described the robbery suspect as a white man about 5-foot-10 or 5-foot-11, who wore a blue long-sleeved shirt, blue jeans, white sneakers, wire-rimmed glasses and a bandana with an U.S. flag design.

Surveillance cameras also captured images of the suspect in the Elderton robbery.

YOU CAN HELP

The FBI, Punxsutawney Borough Police and PSP-Punxsutawney are seeking information about the suspect who robbed Community First Bank around 2:27 p.m. Monday.

Police describe the suspect as a white male; between 25 and 30 years of age; about 6 feet tall with a muscular build.

The individual was also described as wearing tan-colored cargo shorts; a navy tank top; and an olive-green fishing/hunting hat with a strap.

Anyone with information on this incident should call Punxsutawney Borough Police at 938-6220 or PSP-Punxsutawney at 938-0510.
