July 4 crash sends local woman to hospital

YOUNG TOWNSHIP -- A two-vehicle accident that occurred July 4 on Route 310 south of Adrian Road, Young Township, sent one driver to Punxsutawney Area Hospital with minor injuries.
According to PSP-Punxsutawney, a 2004 Dodge Neon driven by a 17- year-old female juvenile was traveling south on Route 310, crossed the double yellow centerline and struck a 2000 Pontiac Grand Am that was traveling north, driven by Jada Shields, 27, Reynoldsville, which bounced off the guard rail twice and crossed Route 310 and struck an embankment.

Police said the juvenile's vehicle spun out and stopped in the northbound lane.

According to police, the juvenile was not injured and Shields suffered minor injuries and was transported to Punxsy Hospital by Jefferson County EMS.

Police were assisted by the Punxsutawney Fire Department and McCalmont Township Volunteer Fire Department.

Police said both vehicles were towed from the scene with disabling damage.
