STATE COLLEGE -- Even though the first day of summer isn’t technically until mid-June, today would be a good day to bust out the shorts and T-shirts.
Friday, AccuWeather.com reported that heat will build into much of the Northeast today. However, temperatures in New England will be held in check today by a pesky onshore flow from the Atlantic Ocean.
Temperatures could reach 75 degrees by 8 a.m. this morning.
The agency also said thermometers in the major cities along the Interstate 95 corridor from New York City to the south will soar well past 90 degrees today, with high humidity helping to create triple-digit temperatures.
Excessive heat advisories and watches are in effect today from central Pennsylvania to North Carolina, and extended exposure to extreme heat can be dangerous, especially to the elderly and young.
Anyone who has to be outdoors for extended periods of time should wear cool clothing and keep well hydrated.
Expert Senior Meteorologist Brett Anderson reported that the heat will peak Sunday and Monday, with warmer-than-normal temperatures continuing along the Eastern Seaboard into next week. |
