REYNOLDSVILLE -- Guest speaker Milt Tyler of Big Run gave the Jefferson County-DuBois AVTS Class of 2008 something to think about during their graduation exercises Tuesday night. As the seniors reminisce about their past and look to the future, Tyler -- a former Punxsutawney Area School board member and member of the Jeff Tech Operating Committee -- quoted Ralph Waldo Emerson: “What lies behind us and what lies before us are tiny matters compared to what lies within us.” He spoke to the graduates on the importance of making short and long-term goals throughout their future to ensure they achieve all of them. “Establishing goals is the most important mental habit you can exercise throughout your entire life,” he said. Tyler also explained how his class ring signifies a goal that he hopes is as important to the graduates as it was to him when he was graduating from Jeff Tech. After a prelude from Steven Curry, the 72 green-and-yellow-adorned graduates entered the gymnasium to receive diplomas in 14 study areas offered at the vocational-technical school that serves Punxsutawney, Brookville, DuBois and Brockway. Chief School Administrator J. Thomas Frantz, superintendent of the Punxsutawney Area School District, welcomed the guests, while Class President Amanda Gaul spoke about the hopes she had for herself and her fellow classmates. Luke Walker was presented the Niagara Cutter Award by David Reiter during the ceremony. Class officers Erica Ryan-Eisenhower and Jonathon Shaffer presented the Class of 2008, while Principal John E. Lougee, Frantz and other Operating Committee members presented the graduates with their diplomas. Lougee then presented the graduates, and Class Treasurer Mary Minns closed the ceremony. The Senior Class Officers of the class of 2008 were Gaul; Shaffer, vice-president; Ryan-Eisenhower, secretary; and Minns, treasurer. GRADUATES Punxsutawney AUTO BODY Morgan C.
