PUNXSUTAWNEY " The Punxsutawney Area Chamber of Commerce recognized Fox’s Pizza Den as the Small Business of the Year during Friday’s Chamber Luncheon at the Punxsutawney Country Club. Tim Fezell, of Fezell’s County Market and recipient of the 2006 award, made the announcement.
Fezell said Fox’s had a record six nominations this year, and has been consistently nominated for the award each year since 2004, when the award was first established.
Owner Scott Anthony was not present to accept the award, instead sending four of the business’ managers as representatives.
“The people that have supported us over the years should receive the recognition,” Anthony said in a statement read by Fox’s manager Stephanie Cummings.
Fezell, in announcing Anthony as the winner, said comments from those who nominated him described Anthony as “highly regarded by his peers” and “a nation-wide marketing guru.”
Fox’s Pizza Den has been in Punxsutawney for 28 years, and Fezell said Chamber members appreciate Anthony’s generosity and support of other Chamber businesses.
Fezell quoted members as saying Anthony goes “consistently over and above” to make a positive impact on Punxsutawney.
Anthony, in his statement, said he and his staff endeavor to “work what is good toward all.”
“Businesses are as good as the people they employ,” Anthony said in appreciation of his staff.
He also thanked the Chamber for its recognition.
“We would not be here without you, the customers and our employees,” Anthony said.
