Victoria Joan Basile, 93, Punxsutawney, died Saturday, Feb. 5, 2011.
Mrs. Basile will be remembered as a wonderful woman with a great love for her family, her friends and her faith. She was a sweet, kind lady who thought of everyone before herself. She was always positive and fun-loving. Optimism and laughter were important ingredients in her good life. She was a fabulous cook; enjoyed playing cards and always laughed gleefully when she won; was a loyal Steelers fan; and always made every family birthday and holiday a special, memorable occasion.
Mrs. Basile grew up in Rossiter and was the remaining sibling of a family of 11, including brother Leo Gruca of Indiana and nine sisters. She passed her traditional values onto her children and grandchildren. She is survived by two daughters, Barbara and Joan and husband Mel; and three grandchildren, Victoria, Megan and Ryan.
She was the widow of Frank J. Basile, who died in 1999 at the age of 89. Married for over 50 years, they were the former owners of the Plantation on Route 119. Before living at the Plantation, they lived in their house in Punxsutawney. Mr. Basile built the house, and Mrs. Basile wrapped the home in love and resided there independently until the end of 2010, when she was 92 years old.
A devout Catholic, Mrs. Basile was a member of SS.C.D., Catholic Daughters of America and ABWA.
Friends and family will be received from 9 to 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 11, 2011, at the Deeley Funeral Home, Punxsutawney, with a Catholic funeral service immediately following at 11 a.m. at SS.C.D., with Monsignor Riccardo officiating.
The family requests memorial contributions be made to SS.C.D., 616 W. Mahoning St., Punxsutawney, Pa., 15767.
