Vernon Carl Snyder, 67, of Winder, Georgia, died Friday, Sept. 21, 2012, in Winder.

He was born Aug. 15, 1945, in Punxsutawney, a son of the late Carl Albert and Edna Florence (Brocious) Snyder.

He was a U.S. Army veteran, having served during the Korean Conflict.

In April 2000, he married Dolly Burkett-Lingenfelter, who survives.

Vern was a member of the Winder First United Methodist Church in Winder.

His hobby was operating the Ham Radio.

He enjoyed his cats, especially his cat O’Malley.

In addition to his wife, surviving relatives include four step-children, Ruth Shaffer and husband Bob of Coolspring, Joyce Stephens and husband Steve of Coolspring, Michael Lingenfelter of DuBois and Robert Lingenfelter and wife Karen of Lawrenceville, Ga.; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; two sisters, Leila Smith of Punxsutawney and Susan Bole and husband Ron of McKean; three sisters-in-law, Geneva Snyder of Fairborn, Ohio, Louise Snyder of Edinboro and Donna Snyder of Clarion; and a brother-in-law, Robert Sherry of Florida.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Bill, Ezra and Don Snyder; three sisters, Bernice Doverspike, Ann Sherry and Judy Kanis; and three brothers-in-law, Tom Kanis, Paul Doverspike and George Smith.

Friends will be received from 2 to 7 p.m., Wednesday, Sept. 26, 2012, at Shumaker Funeral Home, Inc., 115 East Union St., Punxsutawney.

A funeral service will be held at the funeral home at 7 p.m. Wednesday, officiated by Pastor Michael Garvey.

Military honors will be accorded by the Jefferson County Veterans Honor Guard.
