Vernon C. Martin, 82

Vernon C. Martin, 82, Punxsutawney, died Sunday, Sept. 11, 2011, at Jefferson Manor in Brookville.

He was born Sept. 5, 1929, in Trade City, a son of the late Elmer W. and Idabelle Gaul (Martin).

March 25, 1950, he married Marian Gahagan Martin, who survives.
Mr. Martin was a member of the Mt. Zion Lutheran Church in Trade City. He was a member of the Mahoning Grange No. 1732 and a National Guard veteran.

He was a retired farmer who also had a trucking and excavating business.
In addition to his wife, surviving relatives include three sons, Leonard Martin and wife Phyllis of Smicksburg, Jeffrey Martin and fiance Kim Barenchik of Punxsutawney, and Kevin Martin of Ringgold; two daughters, Diane Neese and husband James of Ringgold, and Rebecca Dubensky and husband Louis of Punxsutawney; 12 grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; three brothers, Richard Martin and wife Lois of Polk, Robert Martin and wife Norma of Trade City, and Noel Martin and wife Kathy of Punxsutawney; and three sisters, Eleanor Wilson and husband Robert of DuBois, Isabell Neal of Valier, and Beverly Lyons of Marchand.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, George, Walter and Donald Martin; and a sister, Joan Winebark.

Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 13, 2011, at the Deeley Funeral Home, Punxsutawney.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 14, 2011, at the funeral home, with Pastor Maureen Seifried officiating.

Interment will be at the Round Top Cemetery.

The family has suggested that memorials in Mr. Martin's name be made to the Mt. Zion Lutheran Church.
