Verne D. Hoffman Jr., 84, Brookville, died Sunday, Dec. 19, 2010, at Presbyterian Hospital, Pittsburgh.

He was born March 9, 1926, in Brookville, a son of the late Verne D. and Janet Sarah (Evans) Hoffman Sr.

Aug. 31, 1956, in Akron, Ohio, he married Patricia E. Lucas, who survives.

Mr. Hoffman was a veteran of World War II, having served in the U.S. Army Air Force.

He worked as a carpenter, a construction worker and in the timber industry, where he was a sawmill owner and operator. In the later years, he worked and retired from the Clarion University Maintenance Department in Clarion after 15 years of employment.

In addition to his wife, surviving relatives include a daughter, Rebecca K. Aguado and husband Joseph of Zephyr Hills, Fla.; two sons, Roy Gene Gillman and wife Marilyn of Gillette, Wyo., and Thomas N. Gillman and wife Jacque of Jerusalem, Ohio; 11 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Margaret Brown and Mary Louise McCracken; and a brother, Meade Hoffman.

Friends will be received from 2 to 7 p.m. today at the McKinney Funeral Home, Brookville.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 22, 2010, at the funeral home with the Rev. Kenneth Eddy officiating.

Interment will be in St. John’s Cemetery (Windy Hill), Rose Township.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Rathmel Baptist Church Building Fund.
