Verna Sikora, 88

Verna Sikora, 88, DuBois, formerly of Punxsutawney, died Monday, Aug. 15, 2011, at Christ the King Manor.

She was born Jan. 19, 1923, in Big Soldier, a daughter of the late Michael and Mary (Meholick) Mehok.

She was married to Walter J. Sikora, who preceded her in death in October 1979.

Mrs. Sikora was a homemaker.

She was a member of St. Michael the Archangel Roman Catholic Church, where she was a member of the Rosary Infant of Prague Society. When she lived in Punxsutawney, she was a member of Ss. Cosmas & Damian Roman Catholic Church. She enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.

Surviving relatives include two sons, Edward Sikora and wife Marlene of DuBois, and Joseph Sikora and wife Elaine of Punxsutawney; four daughters, Veronica Mitchell of Albany, N.Y., Nancy Selzler and husband David of DuBois, Patty Verostic and husband Andrew of Pittsburgh, and Anna Marie Moore and husband Dan of Lake Orion, Mich.; a brother, Michael Mehok and wife Rose of Big Soldier; 20 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by eight sisters and a grandson, Brian Selzler.

Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 18, 2011, at the Goble Baronick Funeral Home, DuBois.

A Scriptural Wake Service will be held at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 18, 2011, at the funeral home.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday, Aug. 19, 2011, at St. Michael the Archangel Roman Catholic Church with Fr. David Foradori as celebrant.

Interment will follow in St. Michael Cemetery.
