DUBOIS— Mitch Blose and Tim Pearce will try to become the first Punxsy tennis doubles' team to win a District IX Class AAA championship in two years Wednesday in DuBois.

The last Punxsy doubles team to win the crown was Jordan Walker and Jesse Branken.

Blose and Pearce were 8-0 together in the regular season and will open the tournament at 9:30 a.m. as the No. 1 overall seed. The duo will face Corey Maines and Jordan McAllister of Clearfield in the first round.Chucks' coach Todd Heigley has high hopes for Blose and Pearce.

"They're one of the best communicating teams that we've had in a long time," Heigley said. "I think they are similar players, even in singles. They are both hustlers."

Heigley also believes the pair can handle the pressure of being the favorites, as long as they play their game.
"As long as we don't get overwhelmed with what our opponents are doing to us and play our game, we should be OK," Heigley said. "There's no secret, we just need to go out and hit our shots."

If Blose and Pearce advance, they would play the winner of Bradford's No. 1 pair, Andy Eliason and Andrew Carroll, and DuBois No. 2 group, Trey Gilmore and Patrick Johnson, at 11:30 a.m.

"You can get upset at any time," Heigley said. "You have to play your best every match."

Should Blose and Pearce win again, they would play in the championship at 2:00 p.m.

Punxsy's second team in the bracket will consist of Dave Roberts and Brandon Bish. They will have to face Ryan Bower and Kunal Pattel, Clearfield's No. 1 team.

"I paired Dave and Brandon together last Thursday against DuBois, and they both played well at different times," Heigley said. "For them to advance, they're going to both have to communicate well and play well at the same time."

If Bish and Roberts advance, they would have to play the winner of DuBois No. 1 pairing, Alex and Ian Davis, or Braford's No. 2 pair of Dylan Nuzzo and Dan Tingley.
