ST. MARYS — The Punxsy girls' basketball team scored just two points during the first quarter of a game that lacked offense Friday night during a 38-24 loss to Elk County Catholic.

Punxsy (4-12, 1-5 District IX League), which trailed 35-18 entering the final quarter, has now lost eight of its last 10 games.

Punxsy quickly fell behind 13-2 after the first quarter and were constantly playing from behind.

"We didn't shoot the ball real well and didn't rebound," Punxsy head coach Randy Reitz said. "We need to do a better job of playing a complete game."

The Lady Crusaders' lead grew to 20-8 by halftime before they outscored Punxsy 13-11 during the third quarter.

"I just think Elk County's pressure bothered us throughout us the game," Reitz said.

Punxsy's trouble first quarter was the difference Considering ECC scored 25 points to Punxsy's 23 during the final three quarters.

Shawnna Crago led all scorers with 13 points. She had a double-double after added 11 rebounds.

Jenna Reitz added seven points, and Maddison Kernich registered six rebounds.

Leading ECC (14-4, 4-2) in scoring was Karly Carnovale, who had 12 points. After starting the season 6-4, ECC has won eight-straight games.

The Lady Chucks return to the court Monday when they host ECC in a makeup game that was postponed due to weather Jan. 12.

Punxsy then hosts St. Marys (15-1, 6-1) Tuesday. The Lady Dutch are coming off a 70-51 victory over DuBois Friday night.
