Two injured in Route 119 wreck

PUNXSUTAWNEY — The drivers in a two-vehicle accident were injured in a head-on crash that occurred at 7 a.m. Saturday along Route 119 in front of the Country Villa Motel and Wal-Mart in Young Township, police reported.

According to Punxsutawney-based State Police, a 2002 Nissan Sentra driven by Kristen M. Woods, 29, Big Run, was traveling north on Route 119 when she fell asleep at the wheel, causing her vehicle to drift through the center turn lane and into the oncoming southbound lane, striking a 2005 Chevrolet Silverado driven by John L. Parise, 60, Punxsutawney.

Police said Woods was flown to Altoona Hospital by emergency medical helicopter for treatment of moderate injuries, and Parise was transported by Jefferson County EMS to Punxsutawney Area Hospital
for treatment of minor injuries.

According to police, Woods will be charged with careless driving.

Both vehicles sustained severe damage and were towed from the scene by Rebuck's South Side Service.

Police were assisted at the scene by the Central Fire Department and Lindsey Fire Company.
