PUNXSUTAWNEY —Two drivers escaped with their lives in a two-vehicle accident that occurred at 5:50 a.m. Tuesday along Route 119 by Riker’s Yard, Bell Township.

According to Punxsutawney-based Pennsylvania State Police, a 2004 Jeep Liberty driven by Timothy D. Brosius, 61, DuBois, was traveling north on Route 119 when he crossed the center line and struck the left front of a 2000 Dodge Ram 1500 conversion van driven by Anthony M. Weible, 52, DuBois, which was traveling south.

Police said after initial impact, Brosius’s vehicle spun completely counterclockwise and came to rest in the northbound lane about 64 feet north of the point impact.

According to police, Weible’s vehicle traveled off the right side of the road after impact and traveled along an embankment for about 36 feet. It then traveled back onto the road and came to rest in the southbound lane about 96 feet from the point of impact.

Both drivers were extricated from their vehicles by members of the Punxsutawney Fire Department.

Brosius was trapped for an hour-and-a-half before emergency workers were able to free him from his vehicle.

Police said Brosius was flown to UPMC Presbyterian in Pittsburgh for treatment of severe injuries.

Weible was transported to Punxsutawney Area Hospital by Jefferson County EMS for treatment of moderate injuries.

Police were assisted at the scene by members of the Punxsutawney Fire Department and personnel from McCalmont Township, Big Run and the Jefferson County Fire Police.

Police said both vehicles sustained severe damage and were towed from the scene.

Route 119 was closed for more than two-and-a-half hours, PennDOT said.
