PUNXSUTAWNEY — A Smicksburg man was arrested on suspected DUI charges when the truck he was driving struck the front of the "old" Spirit building at 3:19 p.m. Sunday as he exited the Punxsy Hotel parking lot.

According to police, a GMC pickup truck driven by Fred K. Chambers, Smicksburg, was exiting the Punxsy Hotel parking lot when he reported coughing or sneezing, which may have caused his vehicle to accelerate across the north and southbound lanes, striking the office of LifeSpan Family Services of Pa., 111 North Findley St. on the ground floor.

Police said Chamber's vehicle sustained disabling damage and was towed from the scene by Rebuck's South Side Service.

According to police, Chambers was taken into custody for suspected DUI, and charges are pending, awaiting toxicology results.

The LifeSpan office sustained major damage to the front window and entrance to its office, which was unoccupied at the time of the crash.
Police were assisted at the scene by Punxsy REACT and members of the Punxsutawney Fire Department.
