The time to support our troops is upon us

Sandy Mottern, a member of the office staff at Mike's BiLo Market in Reynoldsville, reminds area residents that there is still time to make a generous donation of health and beauty aids, hygiene supplies, snack items and other gifts to be sent to American soldiers serving in Afghanistan.

The annual Support the Troops drive, sponsored by the Jefferson County Chapter of the Pennsylvania Association of School Retirees (PASR) is hoping for an outpouring of contributions to ship overseas to brighten the Christmas holiday season.

Drop-off containers, with shopping lists of needed merchandise, are located not only at Mike's, but also at the Brockwayville Depot Social Center in Brockway, the Rebecca M. Arthurs Memorial Library in Brookville and at Fezell's County Market and the Comet Market in Punxsutawney.

Those who prefer not to shop may also donate money to underwrite the cost of shipping.

The campaign will run through Friday, Oct. 26.
