Time to get all dressed up: First-ever Groundhog Ball is Jan. 28
PUNXSUTAWNEY — This Groundhog Day, the Inner Circle members won’t be the only ones dressed to the nines.
Years after a non-Groundhog Day related charity ball had run its course, the Inner Circle will host the first-ever Groundhog Ball, scheduled from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 28 — just days before Groundhog Day — at the Punxsutawney Country Club (See the accompanying box for more).
The evening will include hors d’oeuvres, a cash bar, music by Rudy & The Professionals and, of course, an appearance by Punxsutawney Phil.
Inner Circle Vice-President Mike Johnston said the ball is not a fund-raiser, but something new to add to the schedule of Groundhog Day events.
“We have given Katie (Bullers, Groundhog Day events coordinator) the carte blanche to come up with events around Groundhog Day, and she’s done a fabulous job,” he said.
Teaming with Inner Circle members Ron Ploucha and A.J. Dereume, Bullers secured the band, and, “It has come to fruition,” Johnston said. “It’s been amazing how well it’s been received.”
Rudy & The Professionals, a six-piece group from Cleveland, Ohio, specializes in a variety of musical styles, such as Motown, R&B, Caribbean/beach, oldies and Top 40.
The band has opened for acts such as Earth, Wind & Fire; Lee Greenwood; The Platters; and Kool & The Gang. It has also performed at venues such as Universal Studios and the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland.
Johnston said there have been other dances held around Groundhog Day in the past, but not like this one.
“The charity ball was not tied to Groundhog Day, but it was the social event of the year,” he said. “We have not had a dressy affair for some time, and we thought this was a good year to start.”
The Groundhog Club Inner Circle will host its first-ever formal Groundhog Ball from from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 28, 2012, at the Punxsutawney Country Club.
There will be hors d’oeuvres, a cash bar and music by Rudy & The Professionals.
Everyone is invited, but admission is limited to 200 pre-sold tickets. RSVPs are requested by Jan. 10, 2012.
Tickets are available from any Inner Circle member or by calling Katie Bullers, Groundhog Day events coordinator, at 938-7700, ext. 3; e-mailing firstname.lastname@example.org; or you can check out groundhog.org.
