Three-run seventh powers Chucks over Beavers
DUBOIS — A close game can change in a hurry.
Trailing 1-0 since the first inning, the Punxsy baseball offense produced five hits and saw three of the runners score to power past host DuBois, 3-1, on Wednesday in DuBois.
Garrett Zimmerman led off the visiting seventh with a single to center and moved to third two batters later when Cory Geer singled. The Chucks tied the contest, 1-1, when Dakota Thomas reached on a fielder's choice to plate Garrett Zimmerman.
Punxsy was not finished there.
Clayton Dale continued the surge with a single to right field for runners at the corners with one out.
Ryan Sloniger brought the go ahead tally, Thomas, home when the left-handed hitter laced a single to right field. Ty Zimmerman followed with another hit to right field to score Dale with the third Chucks run before a fly out by Jamie Bush ended the frame.
The three runs were all Michael Klingensmith needed on the mound. The junior right-hander limited the Beavers to five hits, one earned run and two walks, while striking out three over seven innings.
Sloniger and Garrett Zimmerman were the two multi-hitters with two singles apiece to pace Punxsy.
Ty Zimmerman added a pair of walks with his hit while Geer and Dale accounted for the other two.
Punxsy will return home for a 4 p.m. affair today against Philipsburg-Osceola.
