INDIANA — Punxsy's Alexis Young, Santana Smith, Karah Hollis took advantage of nice weather last Thursday at the Indiana Area girls' 9th and 10th grade track meet to win individual championships.

Young finished first in the 1,600-meter run (5:43), while Hollis earned wins in the 100-meter (13.0) and 200-meter dash (28.00) and Smith won the shot put (30-2).

Barry Young, head coach of the Lady Chucks, said this was a breakthrough performance for Hollis.

"Karah had a great day, winning both the 100 and 200 meter (dashes)," Young said. "These times were her personal bests, she's been frustrated with her times and so this should boost her confidence."

Young was also pleased with Young and Smith's efforts.

Young picked up a second placed finish in the 800 (2:42.2) and Smith finished sixth in the discus (82-11).

"It was nice seeing Santana win the shot put. She deserves it," Young said. "Alexis had another good day by winning the 1,600 and taking second in the 800 run."

Punxsy's next highest finisher was Alexis Minich, who finished second in the shot put (29-11 1/2).

Young said he believes Minich has steadily improved in the event through the season.

The 3,200 meter relay team, consisting of Young, Emily Reitz, Tamera Anthony and Lauren Giavedoni placed fifth (11:49.0). The 1,600 meter relay team— Hollis, Aly Dickey, Reitz and Young— also finished fifth (5:06.5).

Dickey also finished fourth in the triple jump (31-2) and fifth in the high jump (4-6). Reitz finished sixth in the 400.
