Thomas W. "Bill" McCune, 79, of Punxsutawney, passed away on Friday, Aug. 2, 2013, at his home.

Mr. McCune was born Aug. 9, 1933, in Rural Valley, a son of the late Lawrence H. McCune, Sr. and Edna (Meyer) McCune.

He was preceded in death by his loving wife and soul mate, Helen I. (Meckley) McCune, on Feb. 15, 2010.

Bill was a veteran of the US Air Force and was retired as an Air Traffic Controller for the US Government.

He was a member of the Grace United Methodist Church.

Bill and his late wife, Helen, resided in Pittsburgh for four years, then moved to Oberlin, Ohio, where they lived for 21 years until Bill retired.

They traveled extensively, making trips to the southwest where they made many friends across the country.

After Bill's retirement, he and his wife moved to the Punxsutawney area, where they became interested in country and bluegrass music, making many friends while attending bluegrass festivals.

Bill will be greatly missed by many loving nieces and nephews.

He is survived by his brother, Lawrence H. McCune, Jr. and wife Peggy of New Mine; three sisters-in-law, Pearl Meckley-Astolos and husband Chuck of Apollo, Myrtle E. Sprankle and husband William and Evelyn Manto, all of Punxsutawney; several loving nieces and nephews; and their special friends, Ralph and Nancy States.

Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. today at McCabe Funeral Home, Punxsutawney.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 6, 2013, at the funeral home with Pastor Al Kimmel officiating.

Memorial contributions may be made in Mr. McCune's name to the Grace United Methodist Church, 61 Hillcrest Dr., Punxsutawney, PA 15767.
