Thomas Joseph Hudock, 88

Thomas Joseph Hudock, 88, of Indiana, died Thursday, March 21, 2013 at the Bethany Place Residential Care Home in Indiana, Pa.

He was born in Anita, Pa., on March 8, 1925, and was the son of the late Michael and Anna Mary (Petrick) Hudock.

He attended grade school in Anita and graduated from Punxsutawney High School in May 1943.

In September 1943, Tom enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Force.

During the Second World War, he served as a radio operator and gunner on B-17s with the 18th Air Force and also on B-29s with the 5th Air Force Division in Saipan.

He obtained the rank of Sergeant in February 1946.

Following the war, Tom joined the Pennsylvania State Police.

From 1947 through 1954, he was involved with the State Police Rodeo and the Pennsylvania Farm Show, where he earned the nickname “Buck” based on his horse riding abilities.

He was then transferred to the Indiana Sub-Station.

In 1965, he was promoted to Corporal and transferred to Greensburg.

In 1966 he was transferred back to Indiana.

In 1969 he was promoted to Sergeant and assigned to Troop C in Punxsutawney, where he worked Criminal Detail in Clearfield.

Tom later returned to Indiana, where he worked Criminal Detail until his retirement, July 9, 1975.

Tom enjoyed the outdoors and was an avid hunter and fisherman.

He raised and trained many beagles throughout his lifetime.

He was a member of St. Bernard of Clairvaux Catholic Church of Indiana, where he served as an usher and was a member of the Knights of Columbus.

On June 24, 1955, he married Dorothy Wagner Holt.

They were married 47 years, until her death on Sept. 21, 2002.

He is survived by seven nephews, Michael and Joseph Hudock, Punxsutawney; Thomas Hudock, Anita; Robert Hudock, DuBois; James Hudock, Los Angeles, Calif.; John William “Bill” Sinclair, Erie; and Wesley Daniel Sinclair, Indiana, Pa.

Tom is also survived by his fiancée, Jackie Bardoff of Indiana, Pa.

In addition to his wife, Dorothy, he was preceded in death by his siblings: Margaret “Peg” Sinclair of Punxsutawney, Edward and Francis Hudock of Anita and Carl Hudock of Reynoldsville.

He was also preceded by a step-son, Gene Holt of Indiana.

Friends will be received from 6 to 9 p.m. Monday, March 25, 2013, at the Rairigh-Bence Funeral Home, of Indiana.

The Knights of Columbus will recite the Rosary at 7:30 p.m. Monday during the visitation.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Tuesday, March 26, 2013, at St. Bernard’s Catholic Church with Rev. William Keil as celebrant.

Interment with graveside honors will be at St. Peter & Paul Byzantine Catholic Cemetery, Adrian, Jefferson County.
