Thelma Roberta (Corey) Schlemmer-Mahan, 91

Thelma Roberta (Corey) Schlemmer-Mahan, 91, Punxsutawney, passed away Saturday, May 12, 2012, at Jefferson Manor, Brookville.

She was born Jan. 18, 1921, in Donora, a daughter of the late Robert and Margaret (Scarborough) Corey. 

During the Great Depression, she and her family returned to the Corey Roundtop homestead in Bell Township, overlooking Punxsutawney. 

Thelma graduated from Punxsutawney High School in 1939 and lived in or near Punxsutawney for the rest of her life.

Energetic and loving, Thelma is fondly remembered by her sons for the home, support and sacrifices she made for them. 

She was employed by Dr. L.R. McCauley, Sylvania Electric and Rola-Jensen.

Surviving relatives include three sons, Robert W. and the late Charlene (Zarosky) Schlemmer of Export, Gary L. and Jessie (Andrews) Schlemmer of Valencia, and David A. and wife Janine (Bishop) Schlemmer of Punxsutawney; a step-son, Dick Mahan;  a step-daughter, Jean Smith and husband Harold, all of Rochester, N.Y.; two sisters, Frances Smith of Portland, Ore., and Luella DeRoss of Pittsburgh; grandchildren Casey Schlemmer, Codey and wife Megan Schlemmer, Corey Schlemmer, Robert Jr. and wife Judy Schlemmer, Joshua Schlemmer and Debra and Chris Marin; eight great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Thelma is preceded in death by her first husband, Leonard Schlemmer, whom she married Sept. 9, 1939; and her second husband; Raymond Mahan; two brothers, Clark Corey and Robert Corey; and two sisters, Paulene Daugherty and Virginia Corey.

Friends will be received from 1 to 3 p.m. Wednesday, May 16, 2012, at the McCabe Funeral Home, Punxsutawney.

A funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday, May 16, 2012, at the funeral home.

Interment will follow at Circle Hill Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Jefferson Court Assisted Living.
