PUNXSUTAWNEY — The guests at Mulberry Square may not be able to attend Mardi Gras in New Orleans, but they were able to attend their own special Mardi Gras parade through the halls of the resident home.

The Mardi Gras parade has been an annual specialty for the past five years, Activities Director Vickie Amundson said.

Over the past five years, this has become a growing project, as many of the floats have been created by the residents with the guidance of Sue Keane.

Considering many of the floats have taken a great amount of time to complete, they are saved each year to carry through the parade in remembrance of the past celebrations, as well as to make new memories during the current year.

For the past three years, SS.C.D. students have walked to Mulberry Square to join the parade.

This year, SS.C.D. third-graders made their own masks and helped carry floats and banners in the parade.

During the parade, volunteers handed out beads throughout the rooms to the other residents, as well as pushed individuals through the parade.
