Stuchell to be named to Punxsy Sports Hall of Fame
PUNXSUTAWNEY — Saturday, Punxsutawney Area High School's Athletic Department will host its Punxsutawney Sports Hall of Fame Banquet and Induction Ceremony at the Punxsutawney Area High School.
In anticipation of the event, The Spirit will feature the biography of one member of the Hall of Fame Class of 2013 each day.
Today's featured athlete is John (Jack) Stuchell.
Stuchell is a 1953 graduate, and he lettered two years in both football and track and field.
He was an All-District guard and played in the All-Star game in DuBois.
Stuchell was a school record holder in the discus (138-7) for many years and placed first at districts in discus.
He played and lettered four years of college football and track and field at Southwestern College in Kansas.
Stuchell received All-Conference honors and made the All-Methodist Team in 1956.
He threw discus in college against four-time Olympic gold medalist Al Oerter.
Stuchell coached Punxsutawney football for four years, including coaching an undefeated junior high team that went undefeated in its senior year, as well.
He was a school administrator in Brookville for 20 years.
