DUBOIS — A strong performance from Shawnaa Crago in the post proved to be too powerful for DuBois Central Catholic Monday night as the Lady Chucks picked up a 45-37 road win over the Lady Cardinals in DuBois.

The plan was to get the ball low to Crago, and Punxsy executed all night long. The senior finished with 17 points to lead all scorers in a game that moved Punxsy's record to 3-6 on the year, with a trip to Brookville looming Thursday.

"The guards did a nice job getting her the ball in the low post," Punxsy head coach Randy Reitz said. "Shawnna did a very nice job of finishing."

Crago had help offensively as Taylor Newcome finished with eight points and Jenna Reitz tallied seven to give Punxsy a strong all-around effort.

With the game tied at 12 after the first quarter, the Lady Chucks outscored DCC 9-5 in the second frame to take a 21-17 lead into halftime.

The Lady Cardinals barely trimmed the deficit, cutting the Punxsy lead to 33-25 at the end of three quarters before Punxsy did what it needed to do to win down the stretch.

"I thought they played a team game tonight," Reitz said. "I thought everybody had more confidence and did a better job of communicating. Hopefully, that can carry over into Thursday at Brookville.

Crago also pulled down 10 rebounds to secure a double-double in the win, but the breakout performance, as far as rebounding goes, came from Parris Kernich, who finished with a career-high 11 boards.

"That's by far her highest (rebounding total)," Reitz said. "She did a nice job checking out tonight. She has a nose for the ball."

Alex Magill chipped in six points in the win for Punxsy.

Leading the way for DCC was Miller Hopkins with 12.

Now Punxsy's attention turns to Brookville as the Lady Chucks look to avenge an early-season home loss at the hands of the Lady Raiders.

"It's not hard to motivate them (for Brookville)," Reitz said. "They'll be ready to play, just like Brookville will be ready to play.

"Hopefully, we do a better job executing on the offensive end," Reitz said. "We didn't do a very good job over here, and Brookville plays good defense. We need to do a better job setting screens and moving without the ball."
