PUNXSUTAWNEY — While Punxsy's varsity volleyball team defeated the Curwensville Lady Tide Tuesday night in Punxsutawney, the junior varsity team picked up a victory of its own in two games, 25-20, 25-13.

Punxsy was strong at the net, which has become a regular occurrence, both offensively and defensively.

Nicole DiPietro had three kills in the first game, and Bella Gallina picked up a block.

Punxsy's serving has been a strong suit all year, and Tuesday, Alyssa Reitz and Ivy Phillips each had four aces in the first game to continue the trend.

Gallina added an ace for the Lady Chucks in Game No. 1, as well.

"It took us a while to get our game together, but we finished the first game and played a great second game," Punxsy head coach Megan Decker said.

In the second game, Punxsy's offense was led by Jensen Constantino and Hailey Brady, who each picked up a pair of kills, but Decker said that setting up the kills was a full team effort.

"Emily Reitz, Alyssa Reitz and Sydney Phillips had great passes throughout both games to aid our offense," she said. "Shaina Painter and Ivy Phillips had great sets, as well."

Alyssa Reitz also added two more aces to her tally in Game No. 2.

Punxsy looks for another victory tonight when the junior varsity squad hosts the Brookville Lady Raiders at 6 p.m.

The varsity teams will face off afterwards and the seniors will be honored in a Senior Night ceremony.
