BIG RUN — It was a day to honor not only the veterans in our military who served in countless wars, but also those who are currently fighting in the current one.

Veterans and their family members gathered at the Big Run War Memorial on Monday evening to honor their service to our country and to also honor those who have fallen.

VFW Post No. 9044 hosted the event that brought together members of the community, local Boy Scouts and families who currently have a loved one in the military.

Post 9044 Commander Jim Pallone opened the program and welcomed the veterans and their families.

Invocation was done by Post No. 9044 Chaplain Gene McKee.

Jefferson County Veterans’ Honor Guard and Boy Scouts did the presentation of colors.

Hunter and Cody Smith did the Pledge of Allegiance, with Rich Keller singing military service songs afterward.
