SHARON — Following one of the best weekends in the history of Brookville wrestling, expectations were high for the Northwest Region Class AA Individual Tournament Saturday in Sharon.

But the Raiders had some bad luck and took some tough losses and sent only one of their nine wrestlers in the tournament to states next weekend in Hershey.

Jacob Shields (189 pounds) will be the only wrestler from Brookville headed to states for the second consecutive year. Shields finished in second place for the second consecutive year, losing to Commodore Perry’s Steve Ceremuga, 8-7. Ceremuga is the defending state champion at 189 pounds.

Brookville head coach Dave Klepfer said the Raiders couldn't catch a break.

"It's a tough weekend. We had high expectations," Klepfer said. "When you get back to this point, you have to bring your 'A' game and bounce back after losses. I thought we wrestled well and a couple things didn't go our way."

Last season, Ceremuga beat Shields 11-6 in the final.

"He outwrestled us in a couple of scramble situations," Klepfer said. "But Jake did a lot better. We got handled last year with four or five takedowns. We're as happy as you can be with a loss."

The weekend was particularly tough for junior Dylan Zimmerman (145). Zimmerman made it to the consolation finals before he lost to Keystone’s Tanner Hannold by injury default 20 seconds into the match.

Zimmerman picked up Hannold and suddenly fell to the ground, grasping at his ankle. He had to be carried off by the trainers and was later taken to the hospital for X-rays.

"For Dylan, it was a lot of bad luck in our case," Klepfer said. "His ankle popped and it was an unfortunate situation."

Zach Vroman (140) lost in the consolation semifinals, 3-2, in a rematch of last week's district title match with Kane’s Evan Delong.

The Raiders' Brett Smith (135), Tyler Dombrowski (171) and Logan Stout (215) also lost in the consolation finals.

Ron Clark (160) and Brodie Zacherl (130) each won a match at regionals, and Trey Constable (112) went 0-2.
