Sheryl P. McLaughlin, 71

Sheryl P. McLaughlin, 71, Tuscaloosa, Ala., died Wednesday, Nov. 23, 2011, at Hospice of West Alabama In-patient Facility.

She was born in Mercersburg, a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. William A. Patterson.

She was married to her husband of 50 years, Richard R. McLaughlin.
Mrs. McLaughlin earned a B.A. degree in elementary education at Grove City College.

She served as an assistant director of preschool of the First Baptist Church and later as director of the SS.C.D. preschool from 1993 to 1997 in Punxsutawney.

A resident of Tuscaloosa since March 1999, Mrs. McLaughlin was active in the LOGOS program at the First Presbyterian Church and volunteered at DCH gift shop.

She loved golf, tennis, crafts, and was an avid Alabama sports fan. She was passionate about spending time with her grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, surviving relatives include her children, Kevin McLaughlin and wife Mary Ann of Helena, Ala., Douglas McLaughlin and wife Bradley of Brentwood, Tenn.; three sisters-in-law, Sharyn Lukehart, Alma McLaughlin and Joyce Patterson; and four grandchildren, Keanu and Krista McLaughlin of Helena, and Laurel and Macallister McLaughlin of Brentwood.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, James L. Patterson of Chambersburg.

A memorial service was held at 3 p.m. Monday, Nov. 28, 2011, at the First Presbyterian Church in Tuscaloosa, with Dr. Charles Durham officiating.

A reception was held at the church immediately afterward.

The family requests that memorial contributions be made to the SS.C.D. Preschool or the Hospice of West Alabama.
