Sharon E. Jewell, 56

December 2, 2013

Sharon E. Jewell, 56, of Dayton, died peacefully in her home surrounded by her family on Saturday, Nov. 30, 2013, following a nearly three-year battle with ovarian cancer.

She was born on July 27, 1957, in Punxsutawney, and was the daughter of Melvin and Shelvia (Good) Troup.

She was married on Aug. 2, 1980, to Richard E. Jewell, and he survives.

Sharon was a homemaker in the true sense of the word.

She was selfless and kind, always taking care of her family and giving and doing for others.

She was a member of the Oakland Church of God in Distant.

She taught Sunday School and belonged to the PTO.

She enjoyed being outdoors gardening or riding the Harley with her husband.

She also enjoyed cooking, baking, and most of all, being with her family and grandchildren.

She babysat several friends’ children, even being called “Mama Sharon” by some. She was the world’s best Mimi.

Sharon is survived by her parents, Melvin and Shelvia Troup of Dayton; her husband of 33 years, Richard E. Jewell of Dayton; a son, Daniel Jewell and fiancée Bobbie Cornman of Dayton; two daughters, Jessica Fleming and husband Rodney of Home and Lisa Norbert and husband Vaughn of Erie; and three grandchildren, Natalie and Austin Jewell and Milena Norbert.

She is also survived by two sisters, Deborah Oswalt of Smicksburg and Kathryn Troup of Dayton; and a brother, Donald Troup of Dayton.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 7, 2013, at the Oakland Church of God in Distant with Pastor Jimmy Swogger officiating.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial donations may be made to the Oakland Church of God, Distant, PA 16223.

The Alcorn Funeral Home in Hawthorn is in charge of arrangements.

When it comes to children riding in cars, safety always comes first.
