Sens take Game 1 in Fed League Finals

The Sykesville Senators have taken a 1-0 series lead over the Rossiter Miners in the best-of-seven Federation League Finals with a 6-3 win Tuesday night at the Reynoldsville American Legion Field. The contest was even at 3-3 after three innings before the Senators scored two runs in the bottom of the fifth. Then, big-time slugger Kasey Clinton sealed the win for Sykesville with a solo home run in the sixth inning. Miners' manager Jim Dunlap said his pitcher, Sean Smith, who threw a complete game, "pitched an excellent game, but the five unearned runs (off of five errors) killed us." Sykesville pitcher Jason Knarr also tossed a complete game, and Dunlap said he, "pitched a good game, as well." Kyle Neal (pictured above in an at-bat earlier this season), Pete Meterko, Jordan Mesoraco and Luke Janocha each recorded a hit for Rossiter. The Miners return to Rossiter tonight for Game 2 at 6 p.m. with a chance to even the series.
