Senior Corps-RSVP names Thompson Volunteer of the Year

PUNXSUTAWNEY — The desire to help others has no age limit.

Celebrating 40 years of community service, Community Action Inc.’s Senior Corps-RSVP held its annual recognition luncheon this past Thursday at the Eagles.

During the event, Janeen Love, Senior Corps RSVP director, named Ted Thompson, of Brookville, as the program’s Volunteer of the Year. He received the award from Jefferson County Commissioners Jim McIntyre and Jeff Pisarcik.

Thompson volunteers at APPRISE a few times a month, where he provides information to members of the community about Medicare. He is also an active member of the Brookville Lions Club.

Before his retirement, Thompson worked for Lyons Equipment, where he sold logging and sawmill equipment across western Pennsylvania.

Thompson and his wife, Jane, have four children.

Also among those in attendance Thursday were Susan Fusco, Community Action and Community Services director; Wanda Skarbek and Tracy Miller, advisory council members; Roberta Dinsmore, advisory council chair; and Sandy McGuire, advisory council member.

After the awards ceremony, Pastor Paul Thompson entertained the guests.
