ST. MARYS — The Lady Chucks tennis team met the Lady Beavers of DuBois Monday afternoon in blustery conditions at Benzinger Park in St. Marys for the District IX team championship, and DuBois won 5-0 to earn the title.

Despite the loss, Punxsy head coach Rose Graffius was happy with finishing second in the district and saw great improvement in her team throughout the year, especially since DuBois handed the Lady Chucks a 9-0 loss in their first match of the season.

"These girls have improved immensely since our first match against DuBois," Graffius said. "They really gave DuBois some great competition tonight."

In the No. 1 singles, Punxsy's Anna Monyak put up a good fight against Jenna Kirk of DuBois, but Kirk was able to edge her out for a 6-3, 6-1 victory to gain an early edge for DuBois.

In No. 2 singles, Shaina Reddinger was defeated by DuBois' Jenny Reese 6-1, 6-0.

Punxsy's Searra Wasicki faced off against Alexis DeNapoli, who won the set 6-2, 6-2 to give DuBois the three points it needed in the best-of-five match with three singles competitions and two doubles.

Kristina Toretti and Alisha Toretti of DuBois were able to defeat Lauren Wolfe and Amber Ward 6-0, 6-1, and Emma Stafford and Kelsey Collett edged out Punxsy's Calena Spearing and Kylie Krise in a second set tie-breaker, 6-0, 6-7(5-7), to earn the sweep.

While Punxsy's team season is over with the loss, the Lady Chucks' doubles pair of Monyak and Red- dinger defeated Reese and DeNapoli last week in DuBois to earn the District IX Doubles Championship and atrip to the PIAA State Finals Nov. 4-5 in Hershey.
