School board reviews PSSA District Report Card

PUNXSUTAWNEY — Richard Galluzzi, the Punxsutawney Area School District director of federal programs and curriculum, presented the 2012 PSSA District Report Card to the school board at its meeting this week, which was moved to Tuesday in observance of Veterans' Day.

Throughout the district as a whole, the students performed as follows:
• In Mathematics, which was on the test for grades three through eight and 11, 80.4 percent of students were deemed proficient or advanced, as opposed to 75.7 percent at the state level.

• In Reading, which was on the test for grades three through eight and 11, 75.2 percent of students were deemed proficient or advanced, as opposed to 71.9 percent at the state level.

• In Science, which was on the test for grades four, eight and 11, 60.3 percent of students were deemed proficient or advanced, as opposed to 61.4 percent at the state level.

• In Writing, which was on the test for grades five, eight and 11, 70.6 percent of students were deemed proficient or higher, as opposed to 73.2 at the state level.
