Scavenger hunt turns criminal in Brookville

BROOKVILLE — Tuesday, Brookville Borough Police Chief Ken Dworek reported to Brookville Borough Council about a senior scavenger hunt that had gone awry.

He said some members of the Brookville Jr.-Sr. High School senior class participated in a scavenger hunt that was not a school-sanctioned activity.

During the hunt, Dworek said some students became involved in criminal activity.

Dworek said license plates and hubcaps were stolen from vehicles, and lawn ornaments were smashed; some were valued up to $300.

All together, police have been able to identify 17 victims, but police were able to recover all the license plates.

His department received concrete evidence about the incident at 7 p.m. Monday night and has received information that there were five definite offenders, but an additional 10 may have been involved.

At 5 p.m. Tuesday, the suspects were asked to come to the police station.

“It started out as a senior prank, but they got into theft and vandalism,” Dworek said. “Serious things were taken, but it was pretty well handled.”

Dworek said prizes were involved in the hunt, but many seniors backed out after they saw the list of things they were required to hunt.

He said all involved will see criminal charges filed against them over the next week.
