Sanford O. “Otto” Grube, Jr., 89, Punxsutawney, died Sunday, Feb. 2, 2014, at Mulberry Square.
He was born Aug. 3, 1924, in Punxsutawney, a son of the late Cora M. (Blose) and Sanford O. Grube, Sr.
On March 1, 1953, in Butler, he married Muriel C. (Heitzenrater) Grube, who survives.
He worked as a steamfitter for Plumbers and Steamfitters Union Local 354 for 43 years, retiring in 1989.

Mr. Grube was a member of the Punxsutawney Presbyterian Church for many years, where he served as an elder.
He was also a member of the John W. Jenks Masonic Lodge 534, and the Circle Hill Cemetery Board.
Otto was an avid football fan, and enjoyed reading and spending time with family.
He served in the U.S. Army during World War II, in the Pacific Theater. He was a Purple Heart recipient. He served on Saipan in the Mariana Islands, on Leyte in the Philippines, in the Marshall Islands and in the western Hawaiian Islands.
In addition to his wife, surviving relatives include three children, Pamela Hogan of Piermont, N.H., Sanford O. Grube, III and wife Aldora of Wilmington, Del., and Catherine Brier and husband Ben of Chillicothe, Ohio; two grandchildren, Annemarie Brier and Cressa Brier; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Sarah (Grube) Bearfield and Evelyn Grube.
Friends will be received from 6 to 9 p.m., Tuesday, Feb. 4, 2014, and from noon to 2 p.m., Wednesday, Feb. 5, 2014, at the Deeley Funeral Home, Punxsutawney.
A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m., Wednesday, Feb. 5, 2014, at the funeral home with the Rev. Brett Swanson officiating.
Interment will be at Circle Hill Cemetery, Punxsutawney.
