Samuel Haslego, 85

Samuel Haslego, 85, Punxsutawney, died Thursday, Nov. 24, 2011, at his home.

He was born July 13, 1926, in Banks Township, Indiana County, a son of the late John and Mary Haslego.

Feb. 25, 1950, he married his wife of 61 years, Ellen “Marie” (Brady) Haslego, who survives, of Punxsutawney.

He was a member of Ss. Peter and Paul Orthodox Church in Urey.

Mr. Haslego served in the U.S. Navy during World War II as a motor machinist’s mate.

He worked as a heavy equipment operator for 33 years for IA Construction.
Mr. Haslego was a member of the Rossiter American Legion and the Eagles in Punxsutawney. Since 1989, he was a part of his family’s used car business, known as Route 36 Auto Sales.

In his spare time, he enjoyed picking berries.

In addition to his wife, surviving relatives include a son, Dusty D. Haslego and wife Marilyn of Rossiter; a daughter, Karen L. Shaffer and husband Ted of Smithport; three grandchildren, Christopher Haslego and wife Samantha of Midlothian, Va., Scott Mohney and wife Carrie of Punxsutawney, and Kalley Hilton and husband Jason of Creighton; and four great-grandchildren, Christa and Alyssa Mohney and Ben and Max Haslego.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Dennis S. Haslego on Aug. 10, 1986; a grandson, Danny Williard; two brothers; and four sisters.

Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 27, 2011, at the Rairigh Funeral Home Ltd. in Hillsdale, where a parastas service will begin at 6:30 p.m. Sunday.

At 11 a.m. Monday, Nov. 28, 2011, an orthodox funeral service will be held at the Ss. Peter and Paul Orthodox Church in Urey with the V. Rev. Mark Meholick officiating. 

Interment with military honors will follow at the Ss. Peter and Paul Orthodox Cemetery in Urey.
