Roy E. Elbel, 94, Rockford, Ill., died Saturday, Sept. 10, 2011, at Willows Health Center in Rockford.

He was born Aug. 12, 1917, in Titusville, a son of the late Louis El and Florence M. (Frisbee) Elbel.

He was a 1941 graduate of Penn State University.

Mr. Elbel was a mechanical engineer and retired from Sundstrand Aviation in 1984.

He was a member of the Christ United Methodist Church and the Society of Automotive Engineers.

Surviving relatives include a sister, Ruth J. Willert of Glendora, Calif.; and several nieces and nephews.

A funeral service was held at Christ United Methodist Church in Rockford.
Interment was in Evergreen Cemetery, Union City.

Local arrangements were under the direction of Shumaker Funeral Home Inc., Punxsutawney.
