Ron and his wife, Mary, have spent the winter months over the past 5 years at the Cloverleaf Campground in Brooksville.
Ron would leave Pennsylvania at first sign of snow and would not appear back home until well after Punxsutawney Phil declared the winter was over.
Ron and Mary, natives of Punxsutawney, were high school sweethearts — dating since they were 14 years old. They were married for 52 enchanting years and raised their three sons in Spencerport, NY.
They moved back to Western Pennsylvania in 1985 settling in Indiana, Pa., where they pursued a lifelong dream of owning a hardware store.
For more than 20 years, Ron and Mary ran Barclays Hardware on Philadelphia Street in Indiana.
They served the community in a family-friendly style. Ron was fond of saying that “Barclays was the only store where you could still buy something (a screw or washer) and still get change back from a nickel!"
Many patrons would not consider a visit to Indiana complete without visiting Barclays. The store offered friendly service with helpful handyman tips.
In 2003, Ron and Mary moved Barclays Hardware ten miles down the road to Plumville. They continued to offer their famous service in a slower-paced environment. The store closed in 2006, when both Ron and Mary declared it was time to retire.
