Ronald Alan Hook, 67

Ronald Alan Hook, 67, of Decker’s Point, Pa., passed away on Saturday, Jan. 19, 2013, at the Cancer Treatment Center of America in Zion, Ill., with his loving wife by his side following a courageous battle with cancer.

The son of Michael and Mary (Betsa) Hook, he was born on Feb. 10, 1945, in Banks Twp., Indiana County, Pa.

Ron was a lifetime member of the SS Peter and Paul Orthodox Church in Urey, Pa., where he would assist with the reading of the Epistle.

He served as a sergeant in the Air Force for more than three years during the Vietnam War, having been stationed at Bergstrom Air Force Base in Texas.

For more than 40 years, Ron had worked at Polyvision, where he had last been employed as a foreman.

He greatly loved his family and he was the epitome of a good, good man.

Ron loved all sports, especially football, and he was known as an ardent Buffalo Bills fan.

Ron enjoyed using his mental faculties to perform math problem solving-skills, as he possessed a sharp mind adept at figuring out mathematical formulas and statistics.

He was also fond of obtaining further knowledge regarding science and history.

Ron loved his pets, and animals, in turn, exhibited an innate fondness for him.

He was especially fond of his two pets — “Kitten” who would curl up and
take naps upon him, and his horse, “Babe.”

In his spare time, he also greatly enjoyed spending time outdoors gardening and tending to flowers.

He married his wife, Sally Ann (Richards) Walls Hook, in July 2001.

Ron is survived by his wife, Sally, of Decker’s Point, Pa.; three step-sons, Troy Walls and Jeffrey Walls, both of Decker’s Point, Pa., and Matt Walls and wife Sabina of Yuma, Ariz.; three sisters, Irene Smilo of Glen Campbell, Pa., Betty Patton of North Palm Beach, Fla., and Margie Hook of Glen Campbell, Pa., and his many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, John and George Hook; a step-son, Joseph Walls; a niece, Amanda Smilo; a nephew, John Hook; and a brother-in-law, John Smilo.

Friends will be received from 7 to 9 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 24, 2013, and from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 25, 2013, at the Rairigh Funeral Home, Ltd. in Hillsdale, Pa.

There will be a Parastas service at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Jan. 25, 2013.

A 10 a.m. Divine Liturgy will be celebrated at the SS Peter and Paul Orthodox Church in Urey on Saturday, Jan. 26, 2013, with the V. Rev. Fr. Mark Meholick as celebrant.

Interment will follow at the SS Peter and Paul Orthodox Church Cemetery, Urey, Pa.

In lieu of flowers, Ron’s memory may be honored with memorial contributions being sent to the SS Peter & Paul Orthodox Church, c/o 3635 Lochvale Rd., Glen Campbell, PA 15742.
