Rocco E. Pape, 80, of Rossiter, passed away Tuesday, Oct. 15, 2013, at DuBois Regional Medical Center.
Mr. Pape was born Aug. 16, 1933, in Punxsutawney, a son of the late Louis Pape and Anna (Galletta) Pape.
He was married to Martha E. (Kendra) Pape, who survives, of Rossiter.
He was a veteran of the Korean War, having served in the U.S. Army with the 776 Field Artillery.
Rocco was the former chief of the Rossiter Volunteer Fire Co. for many years.
A coal miner by trade, he worked for the R & P Coal Company, Lucerne 6 Mine, before retiring, and he also drove for Jefferson Grocery.
He was a member of the Rossiter American Legion the Punxsutawney Eagles and was an avid gardener.
In addition to his wife, Martha, he is survived by two sons, Gregory Pape and wife Juanita of Punxsutawney and Eugene Pape of Rossiter; two brothers, Carmen Pape and wife Patricia of DuBois and Peter P. Pape and wife Elaine of Punxsutawney; two grandchildren, Eugene and David Pape; and four step-grandchildren, William, Kerry, Austin and Stephen Defelice.
He was preceded in death by two sisters, Concetta Pape and Frances Stojek.
Friends will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 17, 2013, at the McCabe Funeral Home in Punxsutawney.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 18, 2013, at the Church of the Resurrection with Fr. Timothy Kruthaupt as Celebrant.
Private interment will be made at Calvary Cemetery.
