Robert Murray, 89, Punxsutawney, passed away Monday, June 13, 2011, at Mulberry Square Elder Care & Rehabilitation Center.

He was born Sept. 3, 1921, in Punxsutawney, a son of the late George W. and Edith (Coy) Murray.

He was married to Mabel (Young) Murray, who preceded him in death in 1998.

Mr. Murray loved working in his garage and doing mechanic work. He was employed at Jefferson Grocery for many years and also the B&O Railroad. He enjoyed spending time with his family and looked forward to their visits.

Surviving relatives include four daughters, Margaret "Peg" Porter and husband Morry of Indiana, Edna "Sis" Bair and husband Donnie of Punxsutawney, Nancy Nase and husband Gerry of Punxsutawney, and Brenda Mitterder and husband Carl of Middletown; a sister, Clarabelle Davis of Apollo; 10 grandchildren; 12 great- great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by an infant son, Robert; two brothers, George Murray and Leslie Murray; and a sister, Margaret Hottel.

Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, June 15, 2011, at the McCabe Funeral Home, Punxsutawney.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, June 16, 2011, at the funeral home with Pastor Matthew Peachey officiating.

Donations may be made to the Wesleyan Methodist Church in Punxsutawney.
