Robert “Bob” Jay Melzer, Jr., 74

Robert “Bob” Jay Melzer, Jr. was escorted into Heaven by angels on Aug. 30, 2013, after a long and courageous battle with cancer.

He was 74 years old.

He was born in the Wayne Hotel, Desire, Pa., on Sept, 17, 1938, to Robert “Jay” Melzer and Josephine (Jackson) Melzer.

In 1959, Bob married his best friend and the love of his life, Nancy (Keenan) Melzer, in Sykesville, Pa., and they built a home and started a family in Desire, Pa.

They welcomed 4 children — Bobbi, Elizabeth, Susan and Doug.

Bob is survived by his wife, children, their spouses (respectively, David Berger, Michael Luck, Patrick Fetterman, Heather Peltier), 9 grandchildren (Daniel, Dylan, Rachel, Casey, Quinn, Corey, Colby, Campbell and Carter) and a brother, James Buchheit.

His family celebrates his life as a son, brother, husband, father, friend, Christian and member of the John W. Jenks Masonic Order ­ Coudersport Consistory and Jaffa Shrine of Altoona, Pa.

Bob served 32 years with the Jefferson County Assistance Office and later retired to Lancaster County, Pa., to be closer to family and watch his grandchildren grow.

To them, he will forever be remembered as “Pop.”

To his wife and children, he was their hero.

Recently, Bob and Nancy had celebrated their 54th wedding anniversary.

A private Celebration of Life and internment will in held at the Desire Cemetery at a later date.
