Ridgway man killed in one-car McCalmont Township accident

September 30, 2013

MCCALMONT TOWNSHIP — Punxsutawney-based Pennsylvania State Police have reported a fatal accident that occurred at 7:40 a.m. on Monday on State Route 310, near Wayne Storage in McCalmont Township.

Police said that William James Duffield, 37, Ridgway, was driving his 2002 GMC Envoy north on State Route 310, and as he was traveling out of the village of Panic, he was negotiating a left curve in the roadway and lost control of his vehicle.

The Envoy began to slide and rotate and crossed the southbound lane of Route 310, then went off the west side of the road, where it struck a small embankment.

That impact caused the Envoy to roll over several times.

Duffield was not wearing his seatbelt, and he was ejected from the vehicle during the rollover.

He passed away at the scene and was pronounced dead by Jefferson County Coroner Bernard Snyder due to blunt force trauma.

Police were assisted at the scene by the McCalmont Township Volunteer Fire Department, Jefferson County EMS and other members of PSP-Punxsy.
