Richard Q. "Rich" States, 84, of Rossiter, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 26, 2011, at UPMC Mercy Hospital in Pittsburgh.

He was born March 8, 1926, in Rossiter, a son of the late Reed and Edna (Henry) States.

Mr. States served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and was awarded the Bronze Star, Korean Service Medal, United Nations Service Medal and the National Defense Medal.

He was retired from the DG Mock Company.

Mr. States enjoyed his truck and his tractor.

Surviving relatives include two sisters, Lois Schumacker of Punxsutawney and Dorothy Spencer and husband Earl of Baden; five nephews, Donald States, Ronald States, Dennis Spencer, Kevin Spencer and Daniel Schumacker; six nieces, Lori Schwartz, Lisa Allego, Carolyn Matthias, Marie Fairman, Mary Schumacker and Patricia Kerr; and several great-nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Arnold States and infant Earl States; and two nephews, John Paul Holeva and David A. Fairman.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. today at the McCabe Funeral Home, Punxsutawney, with Pastor Paul Thompson officiating.
