Richard "Dick" Lithgow, 82
Richard "Dick" Lithgow, 82, Lakeland, Fla., died Tuesday, March 22, 2011, of respiratory failure.
He was born June 26, 1928, in Derry, a son of the late John and Carolyn Lithgow.
He was married to his wife of 46 years, Jeanne Anne (Ferguson) Lithgow, who preceded him in death. He then married Trudi (Robinson) Lithgow, who survives, of Lakeland.
Mr. Lithgow was a graduate of the University of Pittsburgh School of Pharmacy in 1950. He served in the U.S. Army as chief pharmacist for the 2nd Division while serving in the Korean War.
After the war, he owned and operated the Edgewood Pharmacy in Edgewood for 28 years.
During this time, Mr. Lithgow served several leadership roles as a volunteer firefighter and a life member of the Edgewood Volunteer Fire Department. He also served terms as president and treasurer of the Allegheny County Pharmacists Association. He was later appointed special assistant to the Dean for Alumni Affairs at the University of Pittsburgh, where he also served as curator of the Elmer Grimm Sr. Pharmacy Museum.
After retirement, Mr. Lithgow continued sharing his talents as a pharmacist by volunteering at various clinics for the underserved in Pittsburgh, the Veterans' Hospital, where he co-founded and ran the Coumadin Clinic; and most recently, at Lakeland Volunteers in Medicine.
He was a member of St. Stephen's Episcopal Church in Lakeland, where he was active in various ministries and served on the vestry.
Over the years, Mr. Lithgow earned many awards, including the University of Pittsburgh School of Pharmacy Distinguished Alumni Award and the Edgewood Foundation William D. Limpert Volunteer Service Award. His greatest reward, though, was his loving family and devoted friends. His wit and laughter will live on in many hearts.
In addition to his wife, surviving relatives include a son, Richard Lithgow of Silver Spring, Md.; daughters Anne-Marie Depp and husband Scott of Punxsutawney, Amy Ridgeway and husband Stewart of Lacey, Wash., Susan Lithgow of Pittsburgh; daughter Ann Hines and husband Dan; sons Robbie Robinson and wife Jill, and Kevin Robinson and wife Janet, all of Lakeland; 16 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
